Dirigir “Amalia y la vida de las cosas” en estos tiempos es, para mí, un acto de resistencia y de amor. Vivimos en un mundo complejo, marcado por divisiones, miedos y cambios inesperados que a menudo nos hacen olvidar lo esencial: los vínculos humanos, nuestras emociones y la capacidad de escuchar.

Esta obra me permite crear un espacio, imaginario y real, donde una mujer no desaparece por su edad, sino que se transforma, aprende, crece y vuelve a vivir al conectar con su nieta. Esa relación intergeneracional es un recordatorio urgente y necesario de que el diálogo entre quienes vinieron antes y quienes vienen después puede sanar heridas, reconstruir memorias y sostener el futuro. En el encuentro entre abuela y nieta, el pasado y el porvenir se detienen mágicamente en el presente. Montar esta obra se siente como construir un refugio poético donde la fantasía repara la realidad, aunque sea por un instante.

“Amalia y la vida de las cosas” celebra una latinidad brillante, queer y femenina, que respira resiliencia, creatividad y comunidad. Ponerla en escena nace del deseo profundo de abrir espacios en los escenarios estadounidenses donde florezcan las múltiples y ricas historias de nuestra comunidad latinoamericana

FROM THE DIRECTOR 

Directing “Amalia y la vida de las cosas” in these times is, for me, an act of resistance and love. We live in a complex world, marked by divisions, fears, and constant, unexpected changes that often make us forget what truly matters: human connection, our emotions, and the power of listening.

This play allows me to create a space, both imaginary and real, where a woman does not disappear because of her age, but instead transforms, learns, grows, and comes alive again through her bond with her granddaughter. This intergenerational relationship feels urgent and necessary; the dialogue between those who came before and those who are yet to come can heal wounds, rebuild memory, and sustain the future. In the encounter between grandmother and granddaughter, the past and the future pause magically in the present. Creating this piece feels like building a poetic refuge where fantasy helps us repair reality, even if only for a moment.

“Amalia y la vida de las cosas” celebrates a radiant, queer, and feminine Latinidad that breathes resilience, creativity, and community. Bringing this story to the stage is born from the deep desire to create spaces in U.S. theatres that showcase the rich diversity of stories within our Latin American community.
