Para escribir “Amalia y la vida de las cosas” partí de preguntas. Creo en las preguntas como puertas para entrar a los lugares más interesantes, como puentes para atravesar lo extraño, lo desconocido.

También partí de un llamado de Julieta Vallina, quien quería generar una obra para toda la familia que se representaría en la Comedia de la Provincia de Buenos Aires. Conversamos mucho, pusimos puntos de interés en común y nos lanzamos a la creación. Diego Biancotto sería el director. Armamos un equipo respetuoso y entusiasta.

Al momento de escribir, sentí que los asuntos que queríamos que la obra abordara eran tan personales que, aunque inventara una historia, esta obra inevitablemente hablaría de mí. Porque soy una mujer que tiene en el mundo artístico las posibilidades que han conseguido otras luchadoras, porque cada día vivo la necesidad de lo diverso, porque el amor por los objetos y su historia es un eje del que me importa mucho pensar. Pero, sobre todo, porque me interesa discutir los modos en los que las personas son incomprendidas y festejo la belleza que sucede cuando las generaciones se acercan.

La experiencia en Argentina llenó las preguntas iniciales de nuevas preguntas y trajo un remolino de felicidad.

Ahora, el nuevo remolino es la alegría de llegar como autora al público de San Francisco. Una posibilidad maravillosa que me ha dado La Lengua Theater, Virginia Blanco y el enorme equipo que ha puesto en escena con mirada profunda y generosa mi texto. Ojalá cada función sea disfrute, conmoción y emoción. Que sigan circulando las preguntas y que, siempre, todas las Amalias sean respetadas y valoradas.

A few words from the playwright

To write “Amalia and the Life of Things,” I started from questions. I believe in questions as doors that let us enter the most interesting places, as bridges that help us cross what is strange and unknown.

I also started from an invitation from Julieta Vallina, who wanted to create a play for the whole family that would be performed at the Comedia de la Provincia de Buenos Aires. We talked a lot, we found common points of interest, and we launched ourselves into creation. Diego Biancotto would be the director. We put together a respectful and enthusiastic team.

When it came time to write, I felt that the issues we wanted the play to address were so personal that, even if I invented a story, this play would inevitably speak about me. Because I am a woman who, in the artistic world, has the opportunities that other women fighters have won for us; because every day I experience the need for diversity; because love for objects and their history is a central theme that I deeply care to think about. But above all, because I am interested in questioning how people are misunderstood, and I celebrate the beauty that occurs when generations come closer together.

The experience in Argentina filled the initial questions with new ones and brought a whirlwind of happiness.

Now, the new whirlwind is the joy of reaching the San Francisco audience as a playwright. It is a wonderful opportunity that La Lengua Theater, Virginia Blanco, and the enormous team that has staged my text with such a deep and generous vision have given me. I hope each performance is full of enjoyment, upheaval, and emotion. May the questions continue to circulate, and may all the Amalias, always, be respected and valued.
